Privacy by Design

MedTagID is built with a "safety-first" philosophy. Our system is designed to provide life-saving information to first responders without compromising your digital footprint. We do not use automatic alerts, notifications, or location tracking services.

Information We Collect

To provide a comprehensive medical profile, we collect information you voluntarily provide, including:

  • Personal Identity (Name, Age, Height, Weight, Blood Type)
  • Emergency Contacts (Up to three names, phones, and emails)
  • Structured Medical Data (Surgeries, Immunizations, Family History)
  • Health Specifics (Allergies, Medications, Dietary Preferences)
  • Vehicle Information (For decal registration)

Data Access & Emergency Use

Your medical data is formatted into a secure, read-only PDF. This information is only viewable when your unique QR code is scanned or your secure link is opened. No app or account login is required for a third party to view this emergency information, ensuring rapid access for first responders.

Family & Multi-Profile Privacy

For Couples and Family plans, each profile is managed separately under one primary account. While the account owner manages the data, each individual member is assigned a unique, distinct QR code to ensure their specific medical data remains independent and accurately assigned.

SMS Emergency Notifications

MedTagID uses SMS messaging (powered by Twilio) solely to notify emergency contacts when a medical ID page is scanned. The following terms govern this service:

  • Message Purpose: A single SMS alert is sent to the primary emergency contact on file whenever a user's medical ID QR code is scanned or their secure link is opened. The message contains the patient's name and a notification that their medical ID was accessed.
  • Consent & Opt-In: Users provide express consent to receive SMS alerts through one of two opt-in methods depending on the platform used:
Mobile app opt-in consent screen showing Emergency Updates toggle

Within the app's Profile Settings under the Contact section, users see an "Emergency Updates" toggle accompanied by the disclosure: "By registering, you consent to receive SMS alerts when your MedTagID is scanned. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to unsubscribe." The toggle is presented at the point of entering a mobile number, ensuring consent is obtained before any messages are sent. Consent is recorded with a timestamp at the time of registration and no SMS messages are sent prior to consent being given.

  • Message Frequency: Message frequency varies and depends solely on how often the medical ID is scanned. No marketing or promotional messages are ever sent.
  • Opt-Out: Emergency contacts who no longer wish to receive notifications should contact the account holder to have their number removed from the profile. Contacts may also reply STOP to any received message to be unsubscribed, or email support@medtagid.com to request removal.
  • Help: For assistance, reply HELP to any message or contact us at support@medtagid.com.
  • No Third-Party Sharing: Phone numbers collected for SMS notifications are never sold, shared, or used for any purpose other than sending emergency scan alerts.
  • Carrier Disclaimer: Message and data rates may apply. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Data Retention & Security

We use bank-level encryption to secure your data. Since MedTagID does not track your movements or monitor your daily habits, your data remains static until you choose to update your medical profile. You have the right to delete your account and all associated profiles at any time.
